The TIA Board has passed a formal resolution requesting the appointment of an Associate Minister of Tourism, and CEO Chris Roberts has outlined the benefits of this in a letter to Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.

Chris says TIA supported the appointment of Kelvin Davis as Minister of Tourism, as we felt it was important that tourism continued to have a strong advocate on the front bench. "Tourism happens in every corner of the country. The tourism industry is incredibly diverse, and the challenges and opportunities it faces are many faceted and complex. As a result of this, the industry has multiple events, forums, conferences where the involvement of a Government Minister is desirable.

"TIA's long-held position has been that the size and importance of our industry justifies a high-ranking Minister supported by an Associate Minister."
