TIA has established sustainability as an integral component of the Tourism 2025 Growth Framework. This is expressed through the New Zealand Tourism Sustainability Commitment that has been developed by TIA and the industry and launched in November 2017.
The Commitment uses four elements of a balanced scorecard for industry sustainability - Economic, Visitor, Host Community, Environment - and establishes eight industry-level goals to be tracked over time. The initiative is activated by tourism businesses committing to adopt 14 sustainability commitments into their operations.
TIA is pursuing wide industry update of the Commitment. The power of the initiative will come through achieving comprehensive uptake - many firms contributing to clear industry-level sustainability gains.
