The travel industry is the largest e-commerce segment on the Internet and the largest industry in the world. The size of the industry and its rapid growth on the Internet has made it difficult to locate accurate travel information, however the introduction of .travel as a top level domain name will go some way to reducing this problem as consumers will know that the operators of .travel websites meet certain criteria.

Businesses that register .travel domain names will be instantly seen by consumers as recognised travel businesses. It is anticipated that this will help the industry as well, as .travel will enable the industry to confidently conduct business with other .travel domain name holders.

Why would my company want to change from .co.nz or .com to .travel?

Unlike .com, .org or .co.nz”or other top level domains available on the internet, .travel is an industry sponsored, industry restricted top level domain and that ensures that all .travel web sites will be held only by legitimate travel organisations.

.travel is the Internet top level domain exclusively for businesses, organisations and individuals in the travel industry. .travel will register domain names with the extension, “.travel”, for example, “abctraveloperator.travel”.

Holding a .travel domain name tells the world that you are a verified business or organisation operating in the travel industry. Pre-authentication review by TIA is a free service. Final authentication at the time you register a .travel domain name is included as part of the registration fee. A domain name may be registered for one to ten years.

The retail price to register a .travel domain name has yet to be confimed, but it is anticipated to be in the range of $95-$100US, including authentication and a listing in the .travel Directory.
