Tongariro Transport Operators Meet
Proposed User Group Policy (16kb)
Transport operators for the Tongariro Alpine Crossing met in Turangi last week (5 September 2007) to set up an operator User Group. The group is the latest in a series of initiatives to ensure New Zealanders and overseas visitors receive the best possible information about the crossing and are well equipped for the alpine experience. Representatives from TIA, the Department of Conservation (DOC) and the New Zealand Police also attended the meeting which explored a range of potential standards ranging from marketing messages to Search and Rescue responses. The group is to meet again on October.

Outdoor Recreation Review
Overview of Outdoor Recreation Review (36kb)
The Minister for Sport and Recreation, the Hon Trevor Mallard, in partnership with the Minister of Conservation, the Hon Chris Carter, has asked Sport and Recreation New Zealand (SPARC) to lead a review of the outdoor recreation sector.
The objective of the review is to identify ways to maximise the value of outdoor recreation to New Zealanders (e.g. health, education, tourism, trade, national identity, social development and environmental values). The findings and recommendations of the review will inform the development of a national outdoor recreation action plan.
TIA is represented on a review steering group and along with other represented organisations has been asked to prepare a position paper to help shape a discussion document and associated recommendations that will be presented to Government in 2008.
