Visitor arrivals will rebound strongly in 2007 and 2008, with growth of 6 and 8% respectively, Westpac Chief Economist Brendan O’Donovan says in a new economic forecast for the tourism sector. He predicts annual visitor arrivals will reach 2.8 million by the end of 2008, from 2.4 million currently.

The domestic tourism market is likely to receive a boost because fewer New Zealanders will be holidaying overseas, Westpac Chief Economist Brendan O’Donovan says in a new economic forecast. He predicts short-term departures by New Zealanders will decline in the next two years, driven by rising airfares and a lower dollar.
